| Flab to Fab | May Update

Hello Hello long time no update…

I’ve had a crazy, yet unexpected start to this year.

So my blog has ended up neglected. And as this series of Flab to Fab was suppose to track my fitness journey I thought it best to be the first part of my blog to update and let everyone know how things are going.

So this past month I’ve really thrown myself into a proper fitness routine. It wasn’t even planned its just ended up that I now have different fitness classes Monday-Thursday.  I tend to have a lazy weekend as they are all fully booked atm, but with four gym days and an okay diet I think this is deserved haha!

I’ve currently managed to get my weight down by almost two stone! Mainly in the last month. And the best part about it is not feeling like I’m trying to loose weight, it’s all just fun!

I was super super pleased when my gym had a class timetable revamp as I’ve been wanting to try both Pilates and Yoga for ages. And I kept looking into classes in Glasgow but never taking the plunge to go. And as of April my gym now offers these classes! So ideal!! So that is my Monday and Tuesday nights after work taken up.

Thursday nights are for Spin class. A girl I work with also goes along to these so we have a  nice walk after work to the gym together to catch up on her stories of her previous week with her PT! They are hilarious! He is also the spin instructor and actually wild. Squats on a bike after already being 30 mins in… no problem! Haha.

Last weeks spin class with a replacement instructor felt like a breeze in comparison to the normal class…

My Wednesdays are now taken up by a new hobby of mine. Which bruises me like an absolute peach…Pole Fitness. I’ve wanted to try this for ageees! But I’ve never had the guts to turn up to a class as a newbie alone. Lucky one of my friends decided to come along with me, although it doesn’t help that she’s 5″10 and slim and I’m 5″4 and chunky…

I also completed my first ever Munro the first weekend in May! Which is deffo a step in the right direction for me as this time last year if you asked me to go on a hike I would have laughed! Unfortunately the weather was not the best. But the feeling of accomplishment at the top was fab!

| Food | Babs ~ Glasgow West Nile St

 

What do you do when you get a new hair cut…? 

Head out for a Saturday lunch to celebrate it. That’s what!

 

Ciaran and I can finally say we have ticked Babs off our “Places that are a MUST try” list.

We have been so excited all week (the health kick being a contributing factor). And I would be lying if I said I wasn’t sat at work on Wednesday lunch time checking out the menu and dreaming of all my maybes and musts haves…

And it was definitely worth the wait!

From the Tzatziki and pitta starter to the side of Doner chips. Everything tasted unreal. And I cannot fault a thing.

I decided to go for the Babs Doner and my other half had the Lamb Iskender both from the Lamb plates. But Babs caters for all ~ from chicken dishes, to seafood, and even dishes for vegetarians or vegans.

I can’t imagine it will be too long until our next visit.

Ahhh the winter months are here and it’s soo cold out! I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that the commute to work is a frozen struggle. Too early, too dark and too cold = moody wee Shonz!

| Beauty | MAC Collection…

MAC is a major love of mine! If I could walk in and out with a new lipstick each week, I happily would!! Ugh can you imagine it!

My love began back in the Christmas of 2012 when one of my best friends gifted me with my very first MAC lippy. It was Lush Life from the mineral rich collection, and yes, I have repurchased it! This is my one and only mineral rich lipstick in my collection, only because I prefer a Matte lip but these are perfect for when you’re just needing that bit of hydration and can’t cope with a full on matte.

In my MAC collection I currently have 9 lipsticks. I know, not a lot for a self confessed addict. But this is due to many facts; one being some haven’t quite survived to the dreaded bag check after a boozy night out, another being the rule of binning lipsticks after 2 years (anyone actually do this? Doubtful), or just the fact that I’m currently going through a phase of being ridiculously tight with my money ~ the joys of saving for my first home!

Are we seriously into the last four months of the year already?! SO so many changes this year, but excited to see what the rest of it holds as the winter months are a definite favourite of mine!

Anyways here is a short and sweet post of a few of my go to beauty products from the last month. SPOILER ALERT ~ only one of these products is a recent purchase of mine, I like my comforts.

| NAKED HEAT PALETTE | URBAN DECAY |

 

Love Love Love!! There are mixed reviews out there about this palette. Mainly that people think there should be a wee gold number thrown in, but personally I don’t! For me it is perfection just the way it is. This is my first ever Urban Decay palette, I’ve never understood the hype until now. As soon as I saw Naked Heat advertised I knew I needed it! Like actually NEEDED!! It is literally me in a palette. The warm Autumnal colours, the perfect transitioning shades. A mix of shades perfect for a day wear look or a stronger evening eye look. Ideal.

My newest purchase on the list. This is an eyeliner I didn’t realise I needed until I tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. My birthday passed in early July and as a gift from my Uncle and Auntie I was given a couple of Debenhams vouchers ~ can’t go wrong there! And on my endless list of beauty products I’ve been craving to add to my collection, right up near the top, was of course the Tattoo Liner. I’ve heard fab reviews and add that to the fact my budget friendly eyeliner was just about to give up the ghost, so, what better reason to give it a go?

For someone whose makeup regime must contain eye liner you would think I should have the application down to a tee. Nope. I’m useless. But! In comes this beauty of an eye liner! Honestly I’ve never found it as easy! The sharpness of the nib paired with its easy glide equals the smoothest eyeliner look I could wish for! Sharp…

| HYDRA GENIUS ALOE WATER | L’OREAL PARIS |

 

Wow just wow! I have a feeling this will never leave my favourites. It has fast become an indispensable of mine. I have major skin struggles, I hate it. My skin is a combination type that is also pretty sensitive. So considering the oil levels, putting on a daily moisturizer is a thought, talk about a shiny moon face! On top of that cream moisturizer are basically off-limits, for some strange reason they just don’t absorb well on my skin and will start clump and roll off after a couple of minutes of applying. The Hydra Genius is such a refreshing product for me! And that’s the best word to describe it! REFRESHING! It’s such a natural and cool feeling formula and I am in LOVE.

Hair is not a strong point for me. Makeup, yes, I can get by. Hair is a dread. Getting ready for an occasion I usually prefer to book a hair app as I’m actually useless. Personally I hate hate hate flat hair. And I hardly ever choose to wear my hair straight but my issue was always that I can’t curl my hair using only straighteners. So I decided to invest in these beauties…

And what a fab decision!

After the initial getting over the length of time needed to hold them on my hair, (hate hate using heat on my hair) they were super easy to use! And can create different styled curls. Perfect.

| Lifestyle | Things I Have Learnt In My 8 Weeks of Yoga

 

Hello hello,

 

If you are looking to take up yoga and want to know a little bit more about it,  what you’re letting yourself in for down to the nitty-gritty stuff, this is probably not the post for you!

This is the I’m an absolute beginner unexpected happenings of the last 8 weeks/ fun facts…

 

Yoga is not as easy as I assumed

 

Basically I went into yoga thinking fab! This will be chilled – meditation – I will leave here feeling so Zen! And yes you do… but to get to that stage for an unbalanced clumsy mess like me is a lot of wobbles and confused looks around the room (Help me – what am I doing).

 

Breathing is Difficult 

 

This is not just any breathing, Ujjayi breathing is usually the first thing we do in my classes. I might be slightly exaggerating but breathing in and out for someone elses sloooow count of 5 can make you light-headed. I guess this adds to the overall calm and zen vibes.

 

Don’t practice a shoulder stand alone

 

So its a few weeks into classes now and people have progressed a lot from day 1. I decided to try up my game and join the shoulder stand club. So instead of the embarrassment of going for it in class I thought why not practice in my flat. Great idea. I managed it! Pretty much straight away might I add! But with the excitement came a backwards flip over my neck annnnd a long flat lie on my floor to stop the pain… Kinda glad this wasn’t a class event witnessed by plenty. But also ouch what I did serious damage?? No help for me!

 

Your Mental Health will Improve 

 

Yoga is unreal for not only you physical but also your mental health. I can’t explain how much happier it makes me. I feel less stressed out in life. It is literally my happy place. One class a week is not enough but for now will do.

 

You will gain a core

 

Before my first ever yoga class my core was non existant. And I struggled. If you havent already got a good core, you will…

Flab To Fab | National Pizza Day – Healthy Edit

So apparently today – February the 9th – is National Pizza Day!

And who needs any more of an excuse for pizza eating??

 

Since I’m still in the early days of this health kick I thought I would make a post all about the alternative healthier version of Pizza that is super simple and easy to made. And also Joe Wicks – Lean In 15 inspired.

 

Pizza

 

All you need is:

  • Tortilla wraps
  • Tomato Puree
  • Cheese
  • Serrano Ham
  • Sweetcorn
  • Kidney Beans

 

Method:

  • Preheat oven to gas mark 6
  • Grab your wrap and cover in tomato puree
  • sprinkle on you all toppings
  • add the cheese
  • pop in the oven for 15 mins

 

Done!

Obviously you can swap out any toppings you don’t like and add any others you do. It’s super versatile and a great pizza stand in, definitely fixes those cravings without the guilty feeling.

Flab to Fab | Week 1-3 Progress

I’ve been MIA the last few weeks after saying I would start a weekly health kick update/ round up. SO that was a fail. The main reason being, I had an Exam on Thursday afternoon so the last few weeks have been filled with revision, a mock exam and then the actual exam itself. Also a Hen Do,  and another boozy weekend filled with food and munchies.

But all in all I would say its been a pretty successful-ish start.

I’m now 8lbs down from my start weight and that’s with only going to the gym once this year.

The only changes I’ve made to my diet so far are:

  • Cutting down to one coffee a day (My morning Cappuccino on the way into work)
  • Mainly drinking water throughout the day (At least 2 ltrs)
  • Swapping to healthier dinners
  • And only snacking on fruit

I’m still having a cheat day usually on a Saturday. So much easier to stick with this kick if I’ve a day off that I can enjoy.

Anyways now that my Exam is out the way I can focus more on my diet and hit the gym more. Starting this Tuesday with my first gym class which I’ve booked in for at 6:45am (leaving the flat for 6 will probably kill me).

| Flab to Fab | The Beginning…

Happy happy New Year!

 

I hope everyone’s new year has got off to a great start, unfortunately for me mine has been pretty poor. Starting with a chest infection/ horrendous flu that began on Boxing Day and hasn’t completely cleared yet, but is definitely manageable now.

I have decided that 2018 is my year for sorting my fitness and getting back to a body I feel comfortable in – because let’s face it last year is the most unhappy I’ve ever been in my body – annnnd I’m thinking if I blog about it, I cannot let myself fail. So here goes project Flab to Fab! 

I would love you to follow me on my journey. Where we can hopefully motivate and inspire each other-  sharing tips on clean eating, gym plans and progress.

Fingers crossed a few months down the line I’ll be feeling happier and notice a difference…
